Caroline Weir is "more determined that ever" to reach a World Cup after being installed as Melissa Andreatta's captain.

The Real Madrid midfielder had previously stood in as skipper during Rachel Corsie's tenure with the armband but has been picked as the retired Corsie's permanent successor.

Weir was part of the Scotland squad that featured at the 2019 World Cup in France.

Andreatta takes charge of her first World Cup qualifier as Scotland head coach in Tuesday's away match against Luxembourg, which is live on BBC Scotland, iPlayer and the BBC Sport website and app. Luxembourg then visit the Scots on 7 March.

And Weir says "2027 is as far as I look for now", with the finals in Brazil next year.

"As soon it was New Year, I was thinking about my goals for this year and qualifying for the World Cup is top of the list so, yeah, this is where it begins," Weir, 30, said.

"There's lots of things I want to achieve as captain and I guess it starts from this camp.

"[Leading Scotland at the World Cup] would be everything for me. There's no higher honour.

"More determined than ever because I'm getting older and you don't know how many more opportunities you're going to have."

Weir scored in both of October's friendlies, a win over Morocco and defeat by Switzerland. Since then, the Scots have drawn with Ukraine and beaten China in friendly matches.

"For Mel to choose me as her captain, I'm hugely honoured, humbled, excited because it's such an exciting time for the squad," said Weir.

"It was quite an emotional moment and one that I'm proud of, my family are very proud of. It starts from here.

"We love when our national teams do well in anything and we want to be part of that."
