Angels' Soler charges mound after head-high pitch

Los Angeles Angels slugger Jorge Soler charged the mound and traded punches with Atlanta Braves pitcher Reynaldo López after a 97 mph fastball sailed past his head during Tuesday night's game.

Soler’s first big swing of the game was a two-run home run against López, but tensions flared in the fifth inning when he was hit near the head. After exchanging words, Soler charged the mound, initiating a rare on-field fight that saw both players ejected. Angels manager Kurt Suzuki defended Soler, noting that a pitch near the head is dangerous regardless of intent.

Despite the fight, the Angels' offense struggled, managing only five hits in a 7-2 loss. This incident adds to the Angels leading all of baseball with 11 hit-by-pitches this season, a trend manager Suzuki suggested needs to stop.
