Celtics Target Ngongba as Queta Backup

The Boston Celtics are reportedly targeting Duke Blue Devils sophomore center Patrick Ngongba II as a potential draft pick to provide depth behind emerging star Neemias Queta.

According to FanSided's Eamon Cassels, the Celtics are considering Ngongba, a 6'11" shot-blocking big man who averaged 10.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1.1 blocks in 21.9 minutes per game this season at Duke. Cassels describes Ngongba as having "the profile of being a good, modern center" who ranks in the 99th percentile for Defensive RAPM.

With Nikola Vučević's contract expiring and age becoming a factor, the Celtics need a backup center. Ngongba, projected as a mid-to-late first-round pick, could develop behind Queta much like Queta himself did. The 6'11" sophomore is being compared to a "Neemias Queta 2.0" due to his shot-blocking ability and offensive efficiency as a lob threat.
