Luis Gil delivered an encouraging spring training performance for the New York Yankees, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings against their cross-town rivals, the Mets. The former Rookie of the Year showed solid command with his fastball in the mid-90s and an effective changeup in the mid-to-high 80s, striking out three batters while walking none.
Despite Gil's strong pitching, the Mets prevailed 6-4 behind four home runs. José Caballero hit a homer for the Yankees, who had bases-loaded opportunities but couldn't capitalize. The loss leaves the Yankees with some work to do as they continue their spring training preparations.
