NFL mock draft: Arizona Cardinals get Ty Simpson in Round 2

NFL mock draft: Arizona Cardinals get Ty Simpson in Round 2

The 2026 NFL draft is a little more than three weeks away, and the Arizona Cardinals have been connected to three positions in recent mock drafts. They focus on pass rushers, offensive tackles or Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson.

They are the Cardinals' most pressing needs, so it makes sense.

Draft Wire's Curt Popejoy has a new mock draft that goes two rounds. As has been the trend, Simpson goes to the Cardinals.

See how it happens.

Round 1, No. 3 overall: Miami EDGE Rueben Bain Jr.

Bain is exactly what you want from an all-around edge defender but as a pass rusher, his short arms are unprecedented as far as pass rushers and sack totals. No pass rusher in NFL history has gotten double-digit sacks in a season with arms as short as Bain’s.

Three of the top prospects in this draft are edge rushers — Bain, Ohio State's Arvell Reese and Texas Tech's David Bailey. Bailey goes second overall in these projections, and the Cardinals get Bain.

Bain's physical profile might make the selection risky, but he was dominant. The Cardinals have an extra advantage, though, with two former Miami coaches on their staff as assistants.

The consensus is the Cardinals will get a tackle or a pass rusher here, and a pass rusher does give you the best value, especially since the quality significantly drops after the first round.

They could still get a decent tackle in Round 2. They don't, though.

Round 2, No. 34 overall: Alabama QB Ty Simpson

If the Cardinals believe Simpson is that guy to be their quarterback of the future, this isn't a bad spot to get him, and not having to trade picks to move up to get him is even better.

But is he a better option than a tackle like Arizona State's Max Iheanachor, who is still on the board?

That will be the debate if this happens.

Matildas stars return to squad for friendlies as Joe Montemurro builds to 2027 World Cup

  • Sam Kerr and Caitlin Foord named as Mary Fowler rests after Asian Cup

  • Australia to play 153rd-ranked Malawi followed by India or Kenya

The Matildas have opted for consistency in building towards the 2027 Women’s World Cup, as Joe Montemurro named a 22-player squad for a pair of international friendlies in Kenya later this month.

But the head coach wants Australia to play against more “high quality, top-ranked” opposition in preparation for the global showpiece, given the side faces world No 153 Malawi in their first match, followed by India (No 67) or hosts Kenya (No 134) in the second.

Victor Wembanyama admits he does not care about the Spurs being called inexperienced

Victor Wembanyama admits he does not care about the Spurs being called inexperienced originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

The San Antonio Spurs continue to peak at the right time as they are now on a 10-game winning streak. Victor Wembanyama is playing MVP-level basketball, as they are only two games behind the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference standings.

Wemby and the Spurs are true contenders, but some people are hesitant to call them that. They are being called an inexperienced team, which is true because only Harrison Barnes and Luke Cornet have won a championship on the current Spurs roster. However, it seems the Spurs are just ready to compete for a title.

Wembanyama and the Spurs are not letting the lack of championship experience put them down

The Spurs have turned themselves from being a non-postseason team to being a title contender in just one season. That is mostly because of their talented roster, spearheaded by Wembanyama. He has a great supporting cast led by De'Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, and Keldon Johnson.

It is a team that has shown immense promise, but they have not reached their full potential just yet. Despite that, they are already one of the best teams in the league. Head coach Mitch Johnson has done a great job with his team as they are already prepared to fight for a championship.

Unfortunately, they are being labelled as an inexperienced team. That is normal for any young team that is looking to compete for a championship. The same tag was attached to the Thunder before, but now that they are champions, they are runaway favorites for the title this season in their bid to repeat.

As the superstar and leader of the Spurs, Wembanyama does not care about the outside narratives. All he cares about is what happens in the Spurs organization and how they can defy expectations.

"We don't have experience, right? Screw it. I mean, that's all we got. We're not going to play a different way just because it is this way. We're still going to play 100% and try to win this championship. Screw it," Wembanyama said to Scott Van Pelt on SportsCenter after their win on Wednesday.

As the Spurs continue toward the Playoffs, they become more and more dangerous. With Wembanyama exuding confidence, the rest of the team is also feeling the same way. This is a scary team, especially with how well they have been playing as of late.

United set sights on Ndiaye coup

It comes amid numerous reports confirming that United are indeed among Ndiaye’s admirers heading into the transfer window.

The 26-year-old, hailed as ‘one of the best players in the Premier League’ by Jamie O’Hara this season, will have spent two years with Everton by the time the summer rolls around, and may decide that now, while his stocks are high and the interest is there, is the right time to explore a new venture.

Back in July 2023, the Toffees shelled out £15 million to add the Senegal international to their ranks from Olympique Marseille.

He has since proven to be a tremendous addition, particularly this campaign, when he has hugely benefited from the additions of Jack Grealish and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

How Ndiaye has fared in recent years

Ndiaye has returned six goals and three assists in the 26 league matches he’s played in thus far, having missed a chunk of the term through his African Cup of Nations participation.

(Ndiaye’s complete Premier League record)

His most eye-catching and prolific form came when he was plying his trade for Sheffield United, where he scored 22 goals and contributed a further 14 assists in the 88 appearances he made across all competitions.

By the time the Blades were cornered into facilitating his departure, the Bramall Lane faithful were heartbroken to have to bid farewell to their talisman.

It remains to be seen what kind of fee Everton would demand for Ndiaye, as it’s safe to say they’ll be doing their utmost to convince him to stay put on Merseyside.

Filipowski Adapts to Center Role Amid Jazz Injury Crisis

Filipowski, 22, has seen his role expand as the Jazz’s front court has been hit by injuries and season‑ending surgeries. He has played more games, logged more minutes, and started 38 contests, improving in nearly every statistical category.

Coach Will Hardy said Filipowski is not a natural five but can play the position, and the experience has helped him understand the needs of teammates like Walker Kessler and Jaren Jackson Jr. With only five games left, the young forward values the growth that comes from switching positions.
