Shakhtar Gives $200k to Disqualified Ukrainian Skeleton Racer

Shakhtar Donetsk owner donates $200,000 to Ukrainian skeleton racer Vladyslav Heraskevych, who was disqualified from the Winter Olympics for wearing a helmet memorializing war victims.

The 27-year-old athlete was barred from competing at the Milano Cortina Games after the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation ruled that imagery on his helmet violated expression rules. The helmet depicted Ukrainian athletes killed since Russia's invasion in 2022.

Shakhtar Donetsk announced the donation on Tuesday, noting it equals the prize money Ukraine provides to Olympic gold medalists.
