Want to Work on the 2026 gsport Awards? Start Collecting Your Codes Tonight
Twenty years on since gsport began its mission, this platform has grown into South Africa’s most enduring home for women’s sport. At the heart of it all, every August, are the gsport Awards. A night for the women who run, ride, paddle, score, lead, coach, administer and inspire. A night that doesn’t happen by accident. esporist.org
It happens because of the people who build it.
This year, gsport is officially opening its doors to the team that will make the 2026 Awards. Some of these will be volunteer roles: opportunities to step inside one of South Africa’s most respected sporting platforms, gain real experience, build a CV, and stand alongside a mission you believe in.
Others will be paid gig roles for the contractors, freelancers and specialists whose craft we need to bring the night to life. If you’re a student looking for live-event experience, a working professional ready to give back to the women’s sport community, or an industry veteran whose skill we need under contract, this is your invitation.
We’re recruiting across the full spectrum.
That includes event managers and stage managers; production coordinators, lighting and sound technicians, AV operators and live-stream crew; photographers, videographers, content editors and social media producers; copywriters, sub-editors and researchers; graphic designers, set designers, décor specialists and stylists; MCs, presenters and floor managers; hair and makeup artists; runners and backstage assistants; transport coordinators, hospitality leads and ushers; press officers and sponsor liaisons; web developers and IT support; and the volunteer coordinators who hold it all together.
Past Awards teams have included university students cutting their teeth on a national platform, established broadcasters lending their voice for the night, designers and photographers whose work has gone on to define the gsport visual identity, and dozens of quiet operators whose names you’ll never see, such as runners, drivers, ushers and coordinators, without whom the night simply does not happen. If a discipline isn’t on the list above and you think you belong on the team, tell us anyway. The Awards have always been built by people who saw a gap and stepped into it.
How the Application Works
The first of four codes was sent to you in the Newsletter this evening. Hold onto it. Together with the codes from Weeks 2, 3 and 4, it spells out the gsport21 campaign hashtag we’ll be revealing one word at a time, over the next month.
The full application opens in the Week 4 edition of the weekly gsport Newsletter, three weeks from now. Between now and then, each weekly edition of the Newsletter will carry a unique code. Together, the four codes spell out the gsport21 campaign hashtag, and they double as your application’s key to unlock the Application Page, to be published at a later date.
Here’s the part to underline. The more codes you submit with your application, the higher up the queue you go. Applications with all four codes will sit at the top of the pile when the team starts reading. Three codes will be considered before two. Two before one.
If Week 1 is the only one you catch, you’re still welcome to apply. Every application will be considered. But those who’ve been with us all four weeks will be read first.
So: collect every code. Don’t miss an edition. And if you know someone who’d be brilliant on the team, tell them to subscribe, before Code 2 drops next Wednesday.
