Aichi-Nagoya 2026: Know Your Asian Games Venue – Kaiyoh Yacht Harbor

The Toyota Industries Kaiyoh Yacht Harbor in Gamagori City, Aichi Prefecture, will host sailing at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games.

Located along the calm waters of Mikawa Bay, the venue is one of Japan’s leading yacht harbours and has a strong history of hosting major sailing competitions.

A harbour built for sailing

Unlike most Asian Games venues, Kaiyoh Yacht Harbor is not a stadium with rows of seats. It is a large marine sports complex with racing areas, boat storage facilities, piers and other spaces needed for sailing competitions.

The harbour has a dedicated water area of around three square kilometres for racing. On land, its boatyard covers more than 18,000 square metres and can accommodate hundreds of boats.

The venue is also the training base of the Toyota Industries Sailing Club, which helps Japanese sailors prepare for domestic and international competitions.

Its biggest international moment came in 2017, when it hosted Japan’s first Sailing World Cup. The event also helped establish Gamagori as an important destination for international sailing.

Ideal waters for competition

Mikawa Bay will provide conditions that are well suited to sailing. The relatively calm waters and steady winds allow athletes to focus on boat handling, speed and race strategy.

Sailing competitions can be decided by small margins. Athletes must constantly read the wind and adjust their course while managing their boats.

Gamagori and its coastal culture

Gamagori is a coastal city surrounded by the Atsumiand Chita peninsulas. Its location on Mikawa Bay has shaped its history and culture.

The city is famous for its connection with the sea, hot spring tourism, known as onsen, and local industries. One of its most famous attractions is Takeshima Island, a small sacred island connected to the mainland by a bridge. Gamagori is also famous for its Gamagori oranges, which are grown in the region.

More than an Asian Games venue

Kaiyoh Yacht Harbor remains active even when major international events are not taking place.

The facility hosts national and international sailing competitions, including major class championships. It also supports beginners and young sailors through training programmes and sailing experiences.

Community activities such as trial yacht cruises and introductory sailing programmes help bring the sport closer to local residents.

The harbour has also been used for events connected with other outdoor sports, including triathlon activities around the coastal area.

The Asian Games will add another important chapter to the history of Kaiyoh Yacht Harbor.

Toyota Industries Kaiyoh Yacht Harbor can be reached by train and bus. Public transport is recommended during the Asian Games due to road and parking restrictions around the venue.

By train: From Nagoya Station, take the JR TokaidoLine to Mikawa-Miya Station.

By bus: From Mikawa-Miya or Mikawa-ŌtsukaStation, take the local bus and get off at the KaiyoYacht Harbor bus stop.
