Seahawks $42 million pending free agent predicted to leave Seattle for Browns originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Cleveland Browns need help at wide receiver and a pending free agent from the Seattle Seahawks could be someone they target.
The Browns have a great deal of uncertainty at receiver going into the offseason. Jerry Jeudy is the true definition of inconsistent, Cedric Tillman has struggled to stay healthy and the jury is still out on Isaiah Bond.
This situation is especially troubling when you consider the Browns may be starting a young signal-caller in Shedeur Sanders, who needs all the help he can get.
With that in mind, ESPN's Aaron Schatz predicts the Browns will sign Seahawks wide receiver and pending free agent, Rashid Shaheed, who Spotrac projects will receive a three-year, $42 million deal in free agency.
Here's Schatz's thoughts:
There's more to the return game than just having a fast return man. The blocking matters. Still, the addition of Shaheed would be a big step forward for a Browns special teams unit that I had ranked 32nd on punt return value and 28th on kick return value through my special teams DVOA (defense-adjusted value over average) in 2025.
Shaheed would also be a strong downfield receiver for a unit that desperately needs improvement. Last season, starting for the Saints and then the reigning Super Bowl champions, he had seven games (including playoffs) with at least 50 receiving yards. No Browns receiver eclipsed Shaheed's 687 receiving yards in 2025.
Shaheed, who was traded to the Seahawks at last year's deadline, is one of the most explosive players in the NFL, both as a pass-catcher and returner.
He has tallied over 17 yards per reception in two separate seasons and has scored four regular season return touchdowns during his career, including three off punts. Shaheed also took a kick return to the house in the 2025 playoffs.
Not only would Shaheed give the Browns more depth at wide receiver and a much-needed explosive element in the passing game, he would also offer an elite return man.
That said, we suspect the Seahawks are going to have interest in bringing him back, and Seattle has a ton of cap space to make that happen.
Meanwhile, the Browns have less than $1 million in cap space currently and that will make it very difficult to compete with the Seahawks and other suitors.
