LSU Tigers Beat Mississippi State Bulldogs 72-62 In Final Regular Season Game

It wasn't their prettiest win of the year, but the LSU Tigers took a 72-62 victory over the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon. This was the final game of the regular season.

The Tigers will head into the SEC tournament, which begins on Friday, with a 26-4 record on the year and a 12-4 record in conference play. They will be the fourth seed in the upcoming tourney.

This was the Mikaylah Williams game. She tied her season-high for points with 26 and set a new career high for rebounds with 15. Her previous career high was 11.

LSU will need Williams to carry this confident performance into the postseason. They've been doing a great job at sharing the ball and not leaning on one person to dominate, but their stars need to be stars, or else they can fall into a hole as they did against the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Williams was needed to step up in this game, given that Flau'jae Johnson was held in check by the Bulldogs' defense. Johnson had just four points on 1-for-6 from the field.

It wasn't the most well-rounded performance by the Tigers. Their offense was a bit slower than usual, and they turned the ball over 20 times, but Mississippi State couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. They finished shooting a 32/18/71 split as a team.

There is a low but possible chance that these two teams meet again in the SEC tournament. The Tigers won't play until the third round. They will play the winner of the second round matchup between the Oklahoma Sooners and whoever wins the round one meeting of the Bulldogs and the Florida Gators.
