Joan Laporta gains strong backing from Barcelona dressing room ahead of re-election bid

The political situation at Barcelona is beginning to take shape, and early signs suggest Joan Laporta has strong backing inside the club.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Barcelona dressing room has rallied behind Laporta’s pre-candidacy during the recent signature collection period.

As per the outlet, several first-team players who are also registered club members and eligible to vote, having been members for more than a year, signed in support of the former president.

Furthermore, Hansi Flick is also understood to have signed his support

Who are supporting Laporta?

As relayed by the outlet, some Barcelona players have hinted at their preference in more subtle ways.

Among them, the likes of Dani Olmo and Gerard Martin made small but noticeable gestures that suggested their alignment with Laporta’s project.

The backing was not limited to the men’s squad. Within the women’s team, Aitana Bonmati made her electoral support for Laporta very clear.

Her stance carries weight given her importance both on and off the pitch.

Two well-known figures currently working within the sporting structure also made a visible move.

That image quickly attracted attention among supporters.

Laporta in strong position

Interestingly, Laporta and his team have not focused heavily on aggressively collecting signatures. Instead, they have been travelling across the region to campaign directly.

There is also a notable improvement in the numbers compared to the previous election cycle.

Laporta improved his result by 2.2% points compared to the total number of signatures collected by all pre-candidates in 2021.

Five years ago, he secured 43.6% of the signatures submitted. This time, he has reached 45.7%.
