Atalanta face major dilemma around Marco Palestra’s future

Atalanta are facing a significant strategic crossroads regarding the future of rising star Marco Palestra, as the wing-back prepares to return to Bergamo following an exceptional loan spell at Cagliari.

According to TMW, Palestra is set to rejoin the first-team squad next season, but his explosive form in Sardinia has made him one of the most tracked young talents in European football. The 20-year-old has been a revelation for Cagliari this season, consistently proving to be a tireless engine on the flank and showcasing a tactical maturity far beyond his years. His performances have been so impressive that while La Dea would ideally like to integrate him into the squad, the level of outside interest is making a permanent stay difficult to guarantee.

The race for his signature is already crowded. Last summer, Monaco made a serious push to bring him to Ligue 1, while two Premier League clubs also registered their interest. That English interest has only intensified, with multiple scouts from top-tier British sides monitoring his progress on a weekly basis. Juventus also attempted to jump the queue in January, but their opening offer was deemed insufficient by the Bergamo club.

For Atalanta, the dilemma is financial versus sporting. While Palestra is seen as a perfect fit for the Nerazzurri system, his status as an academy product means a sale would represent a massive “plusvalenza” (capital gain). As the summer window approaches, the club must decide whether to cash in on a significant profit or rebuff the European giants to make Palestra a pillar of their own future.
