Barcelona XI vs Girona – Predicted lineup and team news
Barcelona and Girona meet in La Liga on Monday in a key Catalan clash.
Barcelona are looking to recover from their biggest loss of the campaign and move back to the top of the table, while Girona urgently need points as they fight to avoid relegation.
Even with the heavy Copa del Rey loss to Atletico Madrid, Barcelona had been in strong form beforehand, beating Copenhagen 4-1 in the Champions League and then earning league wins over Elche (3-1) and Mallorca (3-0).
Barcelona team news
Barcelona boss Hansi Flick has given a fitness update before the game, stating that Marcus Rashford is still out with a knee injury. The on-loan forward from Manchester United is making progress, but the club are not rushing his return.
There is better news with Raphinha, who is back in full training and available again after missing the last three matches due to an adductor problem.
Gavi remains a long-term absentee after knee surgery in September 2025 and is targeting a comeback in March, while Pedri is also sidelined with a hamstring issue and is expected to be unavailable for around two more weeks.
Andreas Christensen is another long-term casualty, having suffered an ACL injury during training earlier this year.

CAF Champions League: violence erupts between Al Ahly SC and AS FAR, what happened
African football once again finds itself in the spotlight for the wrong reasons. During the CAF Champions League match between Al Ahly SC and AS FAR in Cairo, the Moroccan players and staff were targeted by bottle-throwing and other projectiles.
The match, played this Sunday, ended in a goalless draw (0-0). Trouble broke out as early as the first half and continued after the final whistle, forcing security forces to step in so the Moroccan team could safely return to the locker room. Winger Ahmed Hammoudan was reportedly struck on the head, as the club denounced attacks against its players, staff, and even supporters present in the stadium.
Since then, AS FAR has announced that it will officially appeal to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for sanctions and for enhanced security measures to be implemented for future games. These incidents come just weeks after the chaotic final of the 2025 AFCON.
