Bears should get picks for Cunningham's hire: Falcons GM

Falcons GM Ian Cunningham says the Bears should receive two third-round draft picks under the Rooney Rule after his hiring from Chicago.

New Falcons general manager Ian Cunningham believes Chicago should receive compensatory draft picks under the NFL's Rooney Rule after he was hired from the Bears. The rule typically awards teams two third-round picks when minority executives they develop become GMs or head coaches elsewhere.

"I'm the General Manager. I was hired. I would think that they would get two third-round picks," Cunningham said at a press conference. Bears GM Ryan Poles called it "a little odd" that the Chiefs received picks when he was hired in Chicago, noting the entire rule is "strange." The Bears won't get picks because Matt Ryan is considered Atlanta's top football executive.
