Chicago Fire FC Breaks Ground on $750M Stadium

Chicago Fire FC has broken ground on a $750 million privately funded stadium at The 78 in Chicago’s South Loop, the first major professional venue built in the city in over three decades. The 22,000‑seat arena, designed by Gensler, is slated to open for the 2028 MLS season.

The club’s owner Joe Mansueto and president Dave Baldwin led the groundbreaking ceremony, joined by city officials and community members. The $750 million project marks the first major professional stadium in Chicago in more than 30 years.

Designed by Gensler, the 22,000‑seat stadium will feature a grass pitch, a dedicated supporters section, and spaces for concerts and community events. Construction is underway at The 78, with an expected opening for the 2028 MLS season.
