Cricket Council Told to Drop 'India' from Name

The Union sports ministry has ordered the Differently Abled Cricket Council of India to stop using 'India' or 'Indian' in its name, stating the body is not recognized as a National Sports Federation.

The ministry warned that only government-recognized federations are allowed to use these terms, with similar notices sent to other sports bodies including the Women's Football Federation of India. DCCI Secretary Ravi Kant Chauhan confirmed receiving the letter and requested NSF status, noting his organization has organized international tournaments despite lacking BCCI recognition.

Chauhan also called for similar action against other differently-abled cricket associations. A ministry source indicated that with the National Sports Governance Act now in force, all sports bodies must seek recognition from the yet-to-be-established National Sports Board.
