Draft Prospect David Bailey Smiles Over Commanders Offer

Texas Tech edge rusher David Bailey smiled when asked about joining the Washington Commanders, saying he would play anywhere for the team.

The Washington Commanders, holding the No. 7 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, are targeting edge rushers to bolster their pass‑rush. At the combine, the team met with Ohio State linebacker Sonny Styles, Miami edge Rueben Bain Jr., Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love and Texas Tech edge David Bailey. Bailey, who posted 12.5 sacks last season, was visibly enthusiastic when asked about a future with Washington, saying he would play anywhere for the team.

With new defensive coordinator Daronte Jones, the Commanders plan to run a versatile scheme similar to Brian Flores’ Vikings, making Bailey’s all‑round skill set a good fit. If selected seventh overall, Bailey could help address the franchise’s urgent need for a dynamic pass rusher.
