Hockey Team Regrets Laughing at Trump's Women's Team Joke

Gold medal-winning U.S. men's hockey team goalie Jeremy Swayman admitted regret over laughing at President Trump's joke aimed at the women's team following their victory.

Swayman, speaking in Boston, acknowledged: "We should have reacted differently. We know that." The Boston Bruins player emphasized respect for the women's team, saying: "We are so excited for the women's team... to share that gold medal with them is something that we're forever grateful for."

Trump had quipped during a congratulatory call that he "must tell you, we're gonna have to bring the women's team," adding he probably "would be impeached" if he didn't. Five members of the men's team declined Trump's invitation to his State of the Union address, while the women's team had previously rejected the offer. U.S. women's team captain Hilary Knight called the president's gibe "distasteful" but noted their win was a "great teaching point" for women's sports.
