Munie and Judd each scored four minutes apart just before halftime, with Munie's left-footed tap at the 42nd minute giving San Jose its first goal of the season.

San Jose dominated possession, outshooting Sporting KC 18-7 and registering 15 corner kicks to three for SKC. The victory comes as Sporting KC enters the 2026 season following a major overhaul with new general manager David Lee and head coach Rafaël Wicky after finishing last in the Western Conference last season with just 28 goals, tied for fewest in the league.
