Prison strip searches rarely find contraband — and more

Prison strip searches rarely find contraband

A report analyzing data from prisons across the country has revealed that the vast majority of strip searches fail to find any contraband. The study, which examined thousands of searches, found that less than 1% resulted in discovering prohibited items.

The authors of the research are advocating for an end to what they describe as a traumatising and degrading practice, arguing that the minimal contraband recovery rate does not justify the psychological harm inflicted on inmates.

No market yet for Mac Jones

According to The Athletic, a market has not yet emerged for Mac Jones, the backup to 49ers starter Brock Purdy. With plenty of free-agent options currently available and more coming as cuts are made, quarterback-needy teams are more likely to consider players they can acquire without losing a draft pick.

The 49ers signed Jones to a two-year deal last year, giving them full control over his rights for 2026. While they claim not wanting to trade him, that's likely posturing. Jones is due $3.25 million in 2026, and any team trading for him might want to give him a raise if planning to make him a starter. Teams looking for quarterbacks are currently focusing on the open market, with Jones potentially becoming an option after the initial wave subsides.
