Scherzer's daughter Brooke wrote the heartfelt letter while composing her wish list to Santa Claus last December. The note expressed her hope that her father would re-sign with the Blue Jays and mentioned how much her family loved spending time in Toronto, including visits to the aquarium and CN Tower.
Scherzer and his wife didn't actually send the letter to the team, joking it would be 'a bad negotiating tactic.' The pitcher wanted to return to Toronto after the team came close to winning the World Series last season, leading in the ninth inning of Game 7 before falling to the Dodgers. 'Obviously we came as close as you possibly can to winning the whole thing,' Scherzer said.
