Former Formula One driver Mick Schumacher wants to move on and forget his disappointing IndyCar debut at the weekend.

Through no fault of his own, Schumacher was forced to retire after being involved in a crash in the very first lap of the season-opener Grand Prix of St Petersburg in Florida.

"I look forward, not back, and will try to understand what we could have done better," he said.

"Our goal was to simply finish the race, possibly complete all laps. We got much less than that, it's very unlucky," said the son of seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher.

"But we still have 17 races. This was only the first one, only the start. And I'm looking forward to the rest of the season," Mick Schumacher stressed.

Schumacher was signed by Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing earlier this year. He drove in Formula One in 2021 and 2022 for Haas, but his contract was not extended and he also failed to find a new team.

He most recently competed in the World Endurance Championship in 2024 and 2025 for Alpine.
