Texans Acquire RB Montgomery

The Houston Texans have acquired running back David Montgomery from the Detroit Lions in exchange for a 2026 fourth-round pick, a 2027 seventh-round pick, and offensive lineman Juice Scruggs.

The Texans plan to make Montgomery, 28, their new lead rusher. Over three seasons with the Lions, he rushed for 2,506 yards, 650 receiving yards and scored 33 touchdowns, averaging over 740 yards per season on 170 carries.

Experts graded the trade, with Texans Wire giving it a B+, citing Montgomery's fit in Houston's zone-based offense and his effectiveness in goal-line situations. The Texans hope to extend Montgomery similar to how they handled Joe Mixon's acquisition in 2024.
