The El Clasico is one of the most anticipated matches on the calendar of football fans.
The fixtures between Real Madrid and Barcelona, two of the most successful clubs in the history of Spanish football, often play a decisive role in the La Liga title race.
Last season, Barca’s 4-3 success at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys marked a major turning point, as that victory effectively sealed the title for the Blaugrana.
Hansi Flick’s side also won their other three Clasico meetings to completely dominate Madrid in 2024-25.
Barcelona’s victories against their arch-rivals meant they ended the season with three trophies – La Liga, Copa del Rey and Supercopa de Espana.
The 2025-26 La Liga season could see Madrid take their revenge as they have appointed a top manager in Xabi Alonso and have also made some exciting editions to the squad.
Dean Huijsen and Trent Alexander-Arnold arrived early at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, while the club have also added Alvaro Carreras and Franco Mastantuono to the squad.
Clasico dates in 2025-26
Madrid will play Barcelona on October 26 at the Bernabeu in what is set to be Alonso’s first Clasico as manager.
The return leg will be played at the Spotify Camp Nou on May 10 next year. Barca’s famous venue will be hosting a league Clasico for the first time in three years.
Alonso’s side performed well to make it to the semi-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup, beating Juventus and Borussia Dortmund in the knockouts.
But they went out of the competition following a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain in the final four.
Barcelona, who didn’t qualify for the Club World Cup, have enjoyed an excellent pre-season. They have comfortably won all four club friendlies against Vissel Kobe, FC Seoul, Daegu and Como.
