Miami Dolphins ‘Expected’ To Release Another Pro Bowl Player

The Miami Dolphins have been one of the busiest teams of the offseason thus far. New general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan hasn’t been afraid to make tough decisions, even if it means moving on from former franchise cornerstones. The Dolphins have already cut two Pro Bowl players this offseason in Tyreek Hill and Bradley Chubb. Minkah Fitzpatrick is reportedly on the trade block too.

Meanwhile, Tua Tagovailoa has long been rumored to be on the chopping block, yet Miami has been trying to trade the former Pro Bowl quarterback instead.

Yet, ESPN’s NFL insider Dan Graziano “expects” the Dolphins to release Tagovailoa instead. In other words, the Dolphins haven’t been able to find any trade partners for Tagovailoa, who has a $56.2 million cap hit for 2026.

“I expect Miami to release Tagovailoa by the third day of the league year (when $3 million of his 2027 salary would become fully guaranteed). The Dolphins will almost certainly designate him as a post-June 1 release to help defray some of the $99.2 million in dead money it will cost to release him.”

Tagovailoa is coming off the worst season of his career after tossing a career-high 15 interceptions. However, the 28-year-old is still viewed as someone who could potentially return to his top form with a change of scenery. Now the Dolphins are expected to give him that opportunity, much like Murray is getting from the Cardinals.

Tagovailoa led the NFL in completion percentage in 2024, and he had his lone Pro Bowl season in 2023 when leading all passers with 4,624 yards. Surely, another team will be eager to take a chance on him getting back on top, especially since it will likely come at a drastically reduced rate of a veteran minimum contract.
