Liverpool cult hero makes Arne Slot look silly with damning statement

Liverpool cult hero makes Arne Slot look silly with damning statement

Liverpool faced Wolves in an extremely lacklustre Premier League clash on Tuesday.

The Reds went into the game as favourites and although they started the second half of the clash as the team on top, their efforts were met with no reward.

Some players stepped up their game but, overall, it's a game that most Liverpool fans will want to forget as soon as their head hits the pillow.

Arne Slot mentioned during his pre-Wolves press conference that he doesn't enjoy football anymore due to the regressive way that most, if not all teams play.

There have been times when the Dutchman has tried to counter this with formation and personnel changes but, with the game in its current state, it's not often that a match takes place that's universally enjoyed.

And often, if teams try and go against this style of play, they're often left on the backfoot and end up losing.

Stephen Warnock hits back at Arne Slot's comments after Liverpool's game vs Wolves

After Slot and Richard Hughes spent over £450 million on new signings, they managed to make some of the world's best players join Liverpool.

Most fans thought they'd dominate and that they'd play expressive football.

Sure, there have been times when the Reds have plated an attack-based game but, more often than not, that's been far from the case.

Tuesday's 2-1 defeat against Wolves proved that with 2005 Champions League winner Stephen Warnock hitting back at Slot's comments about how boring football has become.

"Everything is safe at the moment from Liverpool's point of view," he said on BBC Radio Five Live.

"Backwards, sideways - Slot said he's bored of football and his team aren't entertaining tonight that's for sure."

Liverpool must get their act together

There's no hiding from the fact that Liverpool's performances this season have fallen well below expectations.

Last term, Slot had the Reds set up in an exciting way that often earned them a goal or two.

This season, things just haven't clicked and even though the Dutchman has changed the way that he sets his team up, their performances shouldn't have been affected this much.

Most fans though that Slot's men would be able to retain the title but in reality, they'll be lucky if they even finish in a Champions League place, especially with the form that players such as Cody Gakpo are in.

The fact that Slot and Hughes chose against bringing anyone new in during the winter transfer window is also mind-boggling.

If Liverpool don't get their act together soon, some serious questions will need to be asked about the future of Slot and some of his first-team squad.
