Are Bournemouth going to set the record for most draws?

Bournemouth played out a goalless draw at home to Brentford in the Premier League on Tuesday evening, a result that many would likely have predicted.

The Cherries have been difficult to beat this season, losing just seven times in the top flight with only the top three of Arsenal and the two Manchester sides having lost fewer games than Andoni Iraola's side.

Another team who have only lost seven times is Aston Villa but there is a gap of 11 points between the two sides with Bournemouth's draws to blame.

Should this egalitarian habit continue then Bournemouth could set a new Premier League record by the end of the season.

The current record for most draws in a season is 18, achieved by Manchester City and Sheffield United in the 1993/49 season as well as Southampton the following campaign.

Of course, those were 42-game seasons but the record for 38-game seasons is only one fewer. Newcastle United (2003/04), Sunderland (2014/15), and Aston Villa (twice, 2006/07 and 2011/12) managed 17 draws and currently Bournemouth are just four behind on 13 draws this season with nine games left to play.

Coincidentally, in their last nine games Bournemouth have gone unbeaten drawing five times. Replicate that and the 38-game record is theirs.

However much value that really has is up for debate but being hard to beat certainly has its merits.
