The International Football Association Board (IFAB) will adopt a new rule this Saturday mandating that players who receive treatment on the field must remain on the sidelines for a full minute before rejoining the match. The rule aims to combat time-wasting, particularly when players feign injuries to delay play.
Currently, no specific rules exist regarding how long treated players must stay off the field, allowing leagues to set their own guidelines. The Premier League has operated with a 30-second rule since the 2023/24 season. The new one-minute requirement will standardize this approach across competitions.
