South Salem swimmer wins Maps Credit Union boys Athlete of the Week

South Salem swimmer Dennis Dreischmeyer is the winner of the Maps Credit Union high school boys Athlete of the Week, as voted by Statesman Journal readers.

A freshman, Dreischmeyer won the 100-yard backstroke (1 minute, 0.73 seconds) and 100 freestyle (52.57) and swam on the winning 200 medley relay (1:48.73) and 200 freestyle relay (1:36.06) at the Central Valley Conference district meet.

Dreischmeyer received 51.4% of the reader poll votes. Kennedy wrestler Bohden Sowa was second (25.65%).

Zach Barnett, South Salem swimming

Barnett, a junior, won the 200-yard individual medley (2 minutes, 21.98 seconds), 500 freestyle (5:37.76) and had legs on the first-place 200 freestyle relay (1:36.06) and 400 freestyle relay (3:43.35) at the Central Valley Conference district meet.

Jarrod Coy, West Salem swimming

Coy, a senior, won the 200-yard freestyle (1 minute, 47.15 seconds) and 100 butterfly (52.10) at the Central Valley Conference district meet. Coy's 100 butterfly time is a new district record.

Brysen Higgins, Cascade basketball

Higgins, a sophomore, scored a team-high 19 points Feb. 17 in the Cougars' 70-51 home win over Philomath.

Cole Ricketts, McNary basketball

Ricketts, a senior, scored a game-high 20 points Feb. 17 in the Celtics' 69-47 win at North Salem.

Bohden Sowa, Kennedy wrestling

Sowa won all four of his 150-pound matches Feb. 13-14 at the 2A/1A Special District 1 meet to claim gold. He won his championship match by technical fall in 1 minute, 40 seconds.

Creo Walker, Kennedy wrestling

Walker won all three of his 215-pound matches Feb. 13-14 at the 2A/1A Special District 1 meet to finish first. He won his championship match by technical fall in 5 minutes, 47 seconds.

Tko Westbrook, South Salem basketball

Westbrook, a senior, scored a game-high 30 points Feb. 17 in the Saxons' 80-71 win at Sprague.
