There was plenty of buzz around the Chicago Bears after last season’s NFC North title and playoff win, and that buzz hasn’t cooled down a bit this offseason. With the NFL Combine and draft, the trade rumors, free agency, the stadium saga, and the retirement of Drew Dalman, it seems like a new Bears nugget pops up every day.
Wide receiver DJ Moore has been at the center of a lot of the trade discussion, and with the start of free agency and the league year one week away, we’re likely to get a resolution in the coming days.
CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones mentioned Moore in his latest notebook.
One Bears player plenty around the league are keeping an eye on is wide receiver D.J. Moore. The former first-round pick is coming off his least productive year of his career. The Patriots could be a landing spot for Moore if the Bears do a deal involving the receiver, or he could be part of a hypothetical package that goes to a needy Las Vegas team in a deal for Crosby.
My understanding is that Moore’s reputation around the league is pretty high, and while Bears fans have DJ’s final route and playoff loss fresh in their minds, he’s also thought of highly in their own locker room. Moving on from Moore would be a financial thing for the Bears rather than a talent thing.
Last week, the Chicago Tribune’s Brad Biggs reported that the Bears could get a day two pick for Moore, albeit they may need to get creative with his salary and pay some of that to necessitate a deal.
Earlier today, Biggs again discussed a possible Moore trade, saying that whatever they would save in cap space would have an immediate plan in place to utilize. He also said that “chances are better than not that he’s probably traded.”
It seems like the draft pick compensation in a trade would be tied to how much, if any, of the salary the Bears would eat.
What are your thoughts on a DJ Moore trade? Do you think it’s a foregone conclusion? What would you expect the Bears to get in return?
