Andrea Pavan discharged after elevator shaft fall in South Africa

Italian golfer Andrea Pavan was discharged from a South African hospital after a freak elevator shaft fall that left him with shoulder and back injuries.

Pavan, 36, fell three stories into an elevator shaft during the DP World Tour’s Investec South African Open. He underwent multiple surgeries for fractured vertebrae and shoulder damage, and has been in the country for about five weeks of rehabilitation.

He thanked supporters on Instagram and a GoFundMe raised over $81,000. It remains unclear when he will return to the course, but walking again marks a major recovery milestone.
