The New York Giants have informed linebacker Bobby Okereke they will release him, a move expected to take effect at the start of the new league year. The decision saves the team $9 million against the salary cap compared to his previous $14.5 million figure.
Okereke, who turns 30 in July, led the Giants with 78 tackles and two interceptions last season. The team plans to overhaul the position with new coach John Harbaugh and defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson at the helm.
